Let’s be honest there are just some things in life that quitting seems like the best option. So this past weekend I got to this place of thinking that I had just gained enough weight to do something about it. Last April and May I had worked hard to get to a place that I had not been since high school – and well I am just not there anymore. So I this week I started working out again with a buddy of mine in his gym doing Cross Fit Training.
Monday was hard. Tuesday I got up and was so incredibly sore but I fought through it and went anyway. Wednesday I went to the YMCA to do cardio. Thursday came rolling around and everything in me was saying, “Don’t do it!”
If we are completely honest with ourselves, we all go through that in our spiritual walks! We get pumped about worshipping God, being a part of community, or engaging the world we live in with the gospel. But then there are those days when it just feels like it is all for not. I get it! Been there done that, and designed the T-Shirt!
I love God’s Word concerning this very thing – be encouraged:
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
So this morning in the gym we did the most insane workout – 10 stations doing 100 reps at each station. Count it – that is 1,000 reps. We had 40 minutes to get as many done as we could. (For you work out people – I got 75% of it done.) I started off strategically thinking that I could beat the system – not a chance. I remember about half way through the work out every part of me was ready to head to the showers and just die. It took me realizing that what I was doing was good for my heart, my body, and my mind and that if I didn’t give up I would reap benefit for my body in due season.
The same holds true for our Spiritual walk. The Christian walk is challenging when we take serious the call to be a follower of Jesus. It is only as we keep our eyes on him and keep on going, pushing through the hard times, that in due season we will reap the goodness God has for those who keep on going!
What are you ready to quit? Is it your deadbeat husband that won’t lead Spiritually? Is it your child who is running from everything that you have taught them about being good? Is it your wife who hates life and sits on the couch all day watching TV? Is it your marriage that never seems to be going good no matter what you do? Your job? Your degree? What if you stopped focusing on the issue that is driving you crazy that makes you want to quit, and started focusing on the God who wants to empower you to push through and reap a harvest in due season?
Don’t give up!
Keep this in your mind today as you push through:
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
